  • Emotional Intelligence is integral to learning at Sarvam Shakti!

What often happens at institutions where artistes learn together to perform is, a lot of bitterness or jealousy or rivalry with centre positions or someones talent and so on. Being a former professional danseuse, our Founder, Nehha Bhatnagar laid some very clear ground rules early on at Shakti. Co-operation, Service, Kindness, Compassion, Love and Joy would be our top values and every Shakti has to encourage another on and infact even thank each other for just their presence on any given day! This culture of love has what has kept Shaktis so energized positively with no negativity seeping in and this ENERGY is what reflects in their interactions with anyone who meets them or even watches them dance! Social Emotional Learning is embedded in the ethos of the way Shaktis learn and are taught. From the Core Team to the volunteers, everyone is emotionally intelligent:) To enable more Shaktis to develop holistically, consider supporting us today!

Imagine choreographing as a group, a piece a few hours before it needs to be recorded and showcased for a talk! That level of CONFIDENCE, FEARLESSNESS, TEAMWORK, DISCIPLINE, MENTAL ACUITY and FOCUS is now definitely an integral part of the senior Delhi Shaktis! Truly magical and awe inspiring. You do see a mistake or two here and there but since the request came in last minute for the Senior Citizens Club for Inner Wheel for Janmashtami (Lord Krishna's birth celebrations), the Shaktis had no choice but to choreograph this quickly! • Workshop by Shaktis for acid attack victims

Updated: Jan 1 Chaanv Foundation is doing some pioneering work in the realm of rehabilitating acid attack victims in Agra and Noida. These are survivors of grusome attacks of violence by their loved ones and are trying to find their footing once more in this world despite all sorts of physical and mental trauma. Shishir Bhatnagar, a well-wisher of Shakti who himself is paraplegic inspires us. He volunteers for Chhav Foundation and he connected the Shaktis to the organization to show the Chaanv beneficiaries how dance too is a medium of overcoming grief and trauma and finding ones inner beauty. Watch here a small reel! A young Shakti Lakshmi said this about the workshop: "So this was my second workshop and this was quite special for me because I met with these people for the very first time and they were so sweet with us. Me and my Kathak friend Sanjana- we both were there and 3 other Shaktis for Yoga I have taught them Hand mudras of Bharatanatyam- at first they seemed a bit hesitant but soon when I thought of an activity where I would enact their names out through dance- I saw them all light up and participate. And yoga girls also showed them asanas. We ate food which was made by them only that was amazing...And they were very happy and also they were enjoying with us. We asked them to participate in some movements with us. It was such a special experience as it made me realize how beauty is inside. And Last but not the least Thank you so much to Nehha di and Himangi ma'am for giving me such a beautiful opportunity” To support the work of Chhanv please do visit www.chaanv.org!

  • Vedic Maths for Sarvam Shaktis!!

As Shakuntala Devi said “Without mathematics, there is nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers.” From Veenaji: Veena Upadhyayji I, Veena Upadhyaya, MSc Physics and certified Vedic Maths teacher firmly believe that Maths is all about UNDERSTANDING and not just numbers, algorithms and formulae. I wanted to spread the joy of doing Maths to all our known people and that’s when we decided we should spread the joy to the Shaktis of Sarvam. We contacted Nehha Bhatnagar and said we wanted to do this for free and we were sure that at least few of them would stay back for a period of 6 months. Initially we did 2 batches one for only Sarvam students and second for family friends who are blessed to study in best schools of their city. Though there was initial hiccups regarding the timings and language barriers, slowly students of Sarvam realized that Maths is that one subject which does not require strong English medium base but UNDERSTANDING of the concepts. Slowly the students who were really interested to learn started to stay back and be present on the class. 2 students, Kanak and Khushi stayed till the final class and were consistent in attendance and homework completion. Kanak shares her experience They were so hooked up to the learning that, one of the girls attended the class even while she was at her village attending a funeral ceremony. She clearly told the reason for not speaking up in the class and later I could hear her saying to her grandmother that Vedic Maths is easy and interesting and was persuading her grandmother to learn the same. That’s an interesting outcome as I feel that only those who are 100% convinced can convince the others. The other girl, who lives farthest from Sarvam was consistent in her attendance and picked up the pace quickly. Both the girls who were picking up consistently stayed with us till the end. In the middle we also merged them with the other batch and the Shaktis stayed back, picked up and were on par with the other batch of students. What I liked the most is that the girls did not hesitate to ask questions, opened up with others in the batch, stayed humble and grounded in their approach and learning, kept asking for more questions so that they could practice more and become thorough in their understanding. The hunger to learn was evidently seen which is a good sign. In the end, in the final exam, they fared well and scored equal to the other batch students which made me happy. This shows that, no matter what difficulties you have in life, how you are not privileged like others, it’s the hunger to learn and practice which makes one to excel in life. I wish the girls all the best in their studies and also for their future. I also wish good luck to Nehha and her mom for the wonderful work they are doing through Sarvam and bringing such a positive change in the lives of the little Shaktis. Whats amazing is that both Pradeep Simha and Veena Upadhyay are regular donors to Shaktis education program! They have been supporting us through funds as well as in kind (recently they sent us a 1kg shipment of the best TURMERIC from Waigaon in Maharashtra for the SHAKTI VEGETABLE JUICE!!! To learn Vedic Maths from Veenaji virtually, please whatsapp Pradeep Simha on +919448501313. He also supports many gaushala projects and is a beautiful human to get intouch with for service oriented work.
