Nehha Bhatnagar, our Founder, was invited to speak at TEDxPune conference in 2010 on how dance can be used creatively. The brainstorming that followed really set the ball rolling on ideas that would later become Sarvam Foundation and Sarvam Shakti! Thank you team at TEDxPune!
She had seen first hand how only the privileged people in India had the opportunity to watch and learn 'high culture' or complex ancient arts forms like Indian Classical Dances (equivalent to Ballet in the West). She wondered what may happen to the life of a marginalized child if he/she is given training in this art form and through it, an identity and holistic skills for life!
The talk received a thunderous response and that propelled her to seek out marginalized girls to train for free in the art form of Bharatanatyam. 20 girls learnt from her for six years and every year they had a chance to travel to Poland to showcase their skills. The successes of the girls, the societal change in their communities, the power of their self-worth led to the formalization of Sarvam Shakti as a formal project under her Foundation, Sarvam in 2018. Meanwhile Sarvam Foundation had also become a well-known name in the Indian arts circles for promoting and perpetuating India's artistes and art forms for posterity through innumerable creative events and collaborations.
Today the project supports 300 marginalized girls in 3 Indian states in world-class skill training.
