As we celebrate Pohela Boishakh today (April 14, 2024), the Bengali New Year, a wave of vibrant energy and enthusiasm sweeps across communities worldwide. It's a spirit of fresh beginnings, embracing tradition, and honoring the rich culture of the Bengali people – a spirit that shines brightly in the incredible Shaktis of Sarvam Shakti.
Bangla Mela 2024: A Stage for the Shaktis' Talents
This year's Pohela Boishakh brings to mind a particularly special memory: Bangla Mela 2024 which was held on January 28, at the Community Center in Sector 27. The Bangla Mela is a cultural festival that celebrates the Bengali community's heritage, with traditional music and dance performances, food stalls, arts and crafts exhibitions, and more.
This cultural extravaganza, organized by the esteemed Purbapalli Durgabari Samiti here in Gurugram, has been a persistent supporter of our Shaktis. They recognize the power of the arts to uplift and empower girls from marginalized backgrounds.
A stage bursting with colors and decors, a lively crowd with anticipation... 47 Shaktis took the spotlight, showcasing a remarkable range of talent and dedication:
Semi-Classical Artistry: Flowing attire and expressive movements brought the songs "Na Kaato", "Paani", and "Sarvam Poem" to life. Each step and each gesture was infused with passion and the joy of storytelling through dance.
Yoga's Power: Holding complex poses with firm focus, they expressed strength and flexibility in their performance to "Bharat Ki Beti". Their dedication to the practice was evident, inspiring the crowd to cheer.
Classical Connection: A Bharatnatyam piece to "Luka Chuppi" captured the universal emotions of longing and connection. The exactness of their movements and the expressiveness of their faces showcased their deep understanding of this ancient art form.
Joyous Celebration: Infectious smiles and vibrant costumes filled the stage as they danced Garba and Bhangra. Even the youngest Shaktis had the crowd on their feet, their joyful Bhangra performance showcasing the power of shared rhythm and movement.
Ms. Nehha Bhatnagar, Our Founder, and Ms. Hemangi Bhatnagar, Our Chief Empowerment Officer, accompanied the Shaktis to the event.
Opportunity Empowers
Bangla Mela wasn't just about putting on a great show. It showed how important it is to give girls a chance to connect with their culture. Our Shaktis may face challenges, but through dance and the arts, they're becoming confident and talented. The audience loved their performances so much, they gave donations right there! This proves that traditional arts have the power to change lives.
A Grateful Heart, A Bright Future
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Purbapalli Durgabari Samiti for their strong belief in our Shaktis and for inviting us to perform for their big events every year. As we step into this new year, let us honor the spirit of Pohela Boishakh – a spirit of opportunity, and the celebration of culture. Support Sarvam Shakti and help us empower even more girls to reach their brightest potential. Shubo Nobo Borsho!
