  • Nutrition Workshop by Chetna

    Chetna who is the head of our nutrition vertical, Shakti Sanjeevani, conducted a workshop on Nutrition at the Gurgaon centre for the middle school Shaktis. They were taught that these nutrients can be present in all the vegetables and their products that we eat everyday. Since all the Shaktis belong to the marginalised community they were taught that they can get these nutrients in affordable products too. The little Shaktis were so grateful to learn about all the nutrients that we need in our body to lead a healthy life. The Shaktis went home eagerly wanting to share the information with their family members. Chetna has been involved with the Shaktis since a year now and the Shaktis were so happy to learn from her once again. About Chetna: She hails from Mumbai and has completed her majors in Nutrition from the SNDT Mumbai. Chetna has been passionate about Child Nutrition since the time she was in college and that passion got extended to her taking it up professionally. She had her initial stint with Nestle post which she ventured out on her own to craft PediaNutri. With two boys of her own aged 9 years and 12 years now, her hunger for crafting and sharing ways and means of proper upbringing grew manifolds. Chetna carries with herself 17 years of enriching experience that spans across one to one consultations, creating meal plans, guidance on child upbringing w.r.t eating habits, taking sessions for young moms. She specialises in tackling specific issues like obesity, fussy eating and sports nutrition (for kids) and healthy eating & sustainable weight loss (for Adults).   • India-Malawi friendship!

    Our organisation was visited by two young African ladies- one was an accountant and the other a nurse back in Malawi. Our trustee Captain Ajit Balaram is funding their education and they were visiting India to attend Ajit's daughter Suma's wedding. Incidentally, Suma is the talented graphic artist who has made the Sarvam Foundation logos! They were presented with various dances by the Shaktis and were so fascinated to see the little Shaktis excelling in dance and yoga. They also were enthusiastic to learn Kathak and Bharatnatyam. Our Shaktis proudly taught them the steps for Kathak and Bharatnatayam. They also taught the Shaktis, African dance steps and danced together. Both of them showed great interests in Bharatnatyam and Kathak. One of the ladies was so fond of the dance uniform of the Shaktis and requested to give her a uniform. So, our shaktis gifted a pair of uniforms to her which consisted of salwar suits with dupatta. Their friend Violet in the new Shakti uniform dress!! It was such a great pleasure to have them among our midst. The kids enjoyed their presence and were elated to learn African dance steps which were so new to them. The kids made a lovely memory of the evening by laughing and dancing with them.

  • Arts Exhibition for Rinky, a topper at college and a Sarvam Shakti!

    Our Shakti Rinky, who is in the 2nd Year at the Applied Art Department of Meera Bai Dseu Maharani Bagh Campus conducted arts workshops for school children by visiting Delhi Government schools. She has exhibited more than 50 art pieces at the art exhibition organised by her department at her institute. Rinky was initially involved in dance at Sarvam Foundation. She even went to Poland to perform dance through the Sarvam Foundation. But as she became older she showed interest in Fine Arts. Therefore, the organisation funded her for her further studies with her mentor Mrs. Ritu Singhal, a renowned artiste. Rinky has topped 2nd, 3rd and 4th Semester in a group of 100 students at her college. Here is the marksheet- look for rinky sahoo's name!! We even helped her family get electricity connection to her house to be able to study better. She truly is a powerful Shakti breaking barriers in life. She is one of the most inspiring Shakti who is giving light to all the Shaktis of the organisation.   • A workshop teaching the Shaktis how to be Compassionate

    A workshop on “Compassionate” was conducted by Pheiroijam Anju, a psychologist who is also our Programme Specialist. The workshop was conducted for the middle school Shaktis. As an Ice Breaker, an activity was introduced to teach the value of accepting people and things as they are. As part of the activity, the kids were asked to look at others who share the same answers when asked some questions. They were also asked to look at others who answered differently from themselves without judging the others. This way the shaktis were taught the importance and how to practice compassion towards others. The kids also showed their skills of dance and yoga to each other. They were encouraged to show compassion towards each other and towards themselves. The Shaktis were so delighted to learn about a value such as compassion towards others and themselves.

  • A Parent-Teacher Meeting at Sarvam Shakti

    A parent- teacher meeting was held at the centre in Gurgaon. All the mothers of the Shaktis were present at the meeting. The Shaktis proudly performed Yoga and dance in front of their mothers. They were so overwhelmed to show their talents to their parents. The mothers were also so proud to see their kids perform in front of other parents. It was great interaction between the teachers and the parents for the development of their children where they discussed the areas through which they improve their wards for the best result. The PTM came to end with the conclusion that the progress of the students depends on the joint effort of both parents and teachers.

  • The career path begins for Shaktis!

    The career pathway has begun for our oldest batch of senior Shaktis from the Delhi project! These young women joined us at age 10 and younger and have now completed their graduation from school and some are even in college pursuing a BA programme whilst teaching part-time at Sarvam, Kumon centres and even an MCD School. They teach dance and also Mathematics! Today was their interview at INDIGO AIRLINES for the ground staff and cabin crew position. The interviewers were impressed with the experiences and achievements the Shaktis have had. The main feedback we heard was the confidence was through the roof! The diverse curriculum at Shakti and the hundred+ dance performances each of these girls has had has given them an education for life. Also confidence to face anyone and anything!   • Shaktis at Bengali Mela, Gurgaon Sector 27

    Namo Namo, choreographed by the young Shaktis! The Shaktis performed at the Bengali Mela on 12th Febraury, 2023 which was held at Sector 27 for the Bengali community in Gurgaon area. There were many stalls which were beautifully set up. The stage was also gorgeously set up. The place was well decorated with a Bengali theme. Many people, especially from the Bengali community, who are residing in Gurgaon, visited the mela with their family and friends. Most of the stalls were very attractive due to their arts and handicrafts items. They performed the Sarvam Poem, Namo Namo, Naa-kato, Vande Mataram, Dholida and Yoga at the event. Many of the dignitaries and organisers of the mela appreciated the Shaktis for their beautiful performances. The crowd cheered and enjoyed it. At the event we introduced Sarvam Foundation and the workings of the organisation. We also told the crowd how Sarvam Foundation is working for the upliftment of the marginalised girl child of the society to bring a change in their life to help build a career of their own and to help spread the same values that the organisation upholds.

  • Our Shaktis painted the town red on Republic Day

    On the auspicious day of the Republic Day, 26th January, 2023, our Shaktis were very busy running around the city of Gurgaon. We were so fortunate to get invited to perform at many different places. All the Shaktis were divided into three different groups and performed at various societies like The Park Place, Exotica, The Crest, Bel Air and La- Lagoon. We are so grateful to our core team volunteers, Leads for the projects Shakti Sewa, Shakti Speak, Shakti Sanjeevani and Shakti Shiksha- Tripti, Ritu, Chetna and Alka for helping organize our showcases in their upscale localities in Gurgaon where thousands of appreciative audiences watched our showcases! Rhythmic Yoga on the patriotic song Ae Watan from Raazi They also performed at a Government School at H Block and at the Community Park of H-Block. They performed Yoga, Vande Mataram, Sarvam Poem, Puspanjali, Gurubrahma and Pink amidst the chilly weather of winter. Many of the residents of the societies appreciated the work of the Sarvam Foundation and dedication of the Shaktis. They showed their appreciation by distributing sweets and snacks.   • The Inner Wheel Club Annual Sports Event & Shaktis!

    More than 60 of our Shaktis performed at the Inner Wheel Club Annual Sports Events at Jasola Sports Complex which is located at Jasola Vihar, Delhi. Many boys and girls from various NGO and schools from Delhi came to the event to participate. Many of our Shaktis participated in different races which included three-legged race, 100 meter race etc. Some of them presented a cultural dance show as an awareness to save trees and water. Our Chief Empowerment Officer, Hemangi Bhatnagar was a track and field champion in her younger days and needless to say was thrilled to mentor the girls in running practice weeks before leading up to the event! Our Shaktis running and winning! Some of them even won medals. Members of the Inner Wheel Circle welcomed us warmly. Lunch was served at the event. Our Shaktis set an example to the other participants by maintaining the decorum of cleanliness at the event. Few of the mothers of the Shaktis came along with us to witness the events. We are grateful for their support and for taking care of the children. The Shaktis enjoyed the whole journey back to the centre by singing and merry making. The mothers showed appreciation to Sarvam Foundation for giving them the opportunity to come out of their houses and explore. They expressed heartfelt gratitude to Sarvam Foundation for not only changing their daughters’ life but also their lives. 60 Shaktis dancing!

  • NGO Working With Children in Delhi - Why Do We Need Them?

    Delhi, the capital of India, is home to millions of people, including a large number of children. Unfortunately, many of these children are living in poverty and facing numerous challenges, such as lack of education, poor health, and limited access to basic needs. To address these issues, many Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are working with children in Delhi to help them get a better life. We will explore the work of NGOs working for child care and their impact on the lives of children. One of the NGO working with children in Delhi is Sarvam Shakti by Sarvam Foundation.   • How To Get Tax Exemption Under Section 80G?

    Blog as posted by Care India and then adapted for Sarvam Foundation by our staff Tax Deduction In India, at the end of every financial year, around 8.45 crore people pay income tax as a percentage of annual income. And, every year, more than half of people look for various decent ways to save their taxes. One of those ways is doing charity or donation. This is where section 80G of the Income Tax act comes into the picture. In India, under section 80G, there are several ways to get tax exemption if you donate something. If you donate land to a government body and get the certificate, donate securities to a charitable organisation authorized by the central or state government, etc., are a few of the many ways to get tax exemption in India. We know donating makes you feel good! But does it sound better if it could help you save your tax? Yes, you read that right! Section 80G of the Income Tax Act is a special provision wherein taxpayers can be exempt from paying taxes by donating funds to the organisations specified under the act. Let’s get into this concept more deeply! What is Section 80G of the Income Tax Act? If you are a taxpayer looking for an exemption from tax under Section 80G. In that case, you can generously donate funds to NGOs like Sarvam Foundation or any Governmental organisation to receive a 50% exemption from paying taxes. Conclusively, section 80G will provide tax incentives to an individual or a company indulging in philanthropic services. Taxers can claim tax deductions through donations while filing an income tax return. Henceforth, put an end to your long-time contemplation of contributing to a good cause, as it also comes with tax exemption. How to be Exempt from Tax Under Section 80G? An Indian taxpayer is eligible for tax exemption under section 80G of the Income Tax Act if the donation is made to a specified charity or religious organisation. Whether you are an individual or an organisation, you can claim a deduction by submitting the following documents- Name and address of the charitable trust Name of the donor The donated amount, both in figures and words The Registration Number of the charitable trust along with its validity. Section 80G Deduction There are certain conditions under which the process of deduction under Section 80G is processed. The 80G deduction limit is broadly classified under 4 categories. Without Any Maximum Limit 1- 100% Deduction There will be a 100% exemption of tax under this category. National Defence Fund, Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, The National Foundation for Communal Harmony, National/State Blood Transfusion Council, etc. qualify for this particular category. 2- 50% Deduction Prime Minister’s Drought Relief Fund, National Children’s Fund, Indira Gandhi Memorial Fund, etc qualify under this category. There will be a 50% deduction without any qualifying limit. Subject to Maximum Limit of 10% of Adjusted Gross Total Income 3- 100% Deduction Under this category, donations are processed for local authorities or the government to promote family planning and donations to the Indian Olympic Association. However, only 10% of the Adjusted Gross Total Income of the donor will be eligible for deductions. 4- 50% Deduction Donations under 80G should be made to local authority or government which is used for any charitable purposes. Only 10% of the Adjusted Gross Income becomes eligible for deductions. However, an amount exceeding this limit will be capped at 10%. Documents Required to Claim an Exemption under Section 80G Taxpayers should have all the following documents to claim deductions under Section 80G. The receipt of donations. Form 58 should be submitted if the donations fall under the 100% category Photocopies of 80G Certificate Registration number of the charitable trust. Payment Mode for donations under Section 80G An amount of more than Rs 2000 should be processed in the form of a cheque, digital payment, or demand draft. An amount up to Rs 2000 can be donated in the form of cash. Taxpayers must note that donations processed under foreign trusts and political parties will not be covered under section 80 of the Income Tax Act. Deductions cannot be claimed by donating to any such charitable trusts. Hence, taxpayers can save from paying taxes by contributing to a noble cause and by donating to verified charitable trusts such as Sarvam Foundation. Sarvam Foundation and Section 80G Sarvam Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that builds the capacity of communities to ensure empowerment for marginalised women and girls. The NGO is registered under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, and whosoever donates to Sarvam Foundation is eligible to get an 80% tax deduction on the amount paid by the taxpayer. Upon donation, the taxpayer will immediately receive a certificate under Section 80G with a receipt that can be included in the file for income tax deductions.
